Muslim Student Organization-Gilgit Baltistan (MSO- GB)

MSO-GB was proscribed on April 12th 2012 by the State.[1] However, recent developments indicate that the organization maybe still active in the province of Gilgit Baltistan. Last year, on February 12, 2015 in Chilas, a criminal case was registered against the members of Muslim Students Organization Gilgit-Baltistan. According to media report, three accused members of the organization namely Muhammad Raqib, Waseer Ahmad, Sherullah and Abdul Haseeb were detained by the police and a Joint-Investigation-Team (JIT) was formed to probe the charges.[2] No details regarding the three members or other members of the organization is available online.  Additionally, no information is available regarding the ideology, financial resources, structure of the organization and operations etc of the organization.

The organization has presence on social media and utilizes Facebook to interact with its followers and spread its message https://www.facebook.com/msobasinofficial/. The analysis of the organization’s Facebook page indicates the target audience of the organization include youth and middle class segment of the society. The Facebook page of the organization is followed by forty two (42) people. The posts on the page range from religious quotes to updates on MSO pre-board examinations for students (no detailed information is available regarding these examinations) and anti-India messages. The organization’s Facebook page has liked pages of political parties Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamaat e Islami Pakistan.
