Nek
Muhammad was born in 1975 at Wana, South Waziristan. He
acquired his early education in a local seminary of
Jamia Dar ul-Uloom Waziristan. Nek joined the Taliban
movement somewhere in the 1990s and was made commander
of Waziristani fighters at Bagram Airbase. After the
2001 fall of Taliban, the foreign fighters came from
Afghanistan to take refuge in the tribal areas. Nek
Muhammad was the main contact person for these foreign
fighters. He later engaged with the Pakistani security
forces in various battles in Wana. In April 2004,
Pakistan army struck Shakai peace deal with his group
under which he had to cease hostilities and register all
foreigners. Nek Muhammad failed to follow through on the
deal and was killed in the first drone strike in June,
2004.
